Sister Claims Bushra Bibi's Life is in Danger at Bani Gala
Maryam Riaz Wattoo, sister of former first lady Bushra Imran Khan, has raised concerns over her sister's safety, alleging that Bushra is under house arrest and in danger at Bani Gala, the residence of her husband, former prime minister Imran Khan.
Bushra Imran Khan and her husband were convicted of graft allegations and sentenced to 14 years in jail. She was placed under house arrest at their Islamabad mansion following the conviction. The charges against them involve accusations of undervaluing gifts from a state repository and profiting from their sale during Imran Khan's tenure as prime minister.
Expressing her worries, Wattoo stated that her sister has been mistreated by the authorities overseeing her confinement. She specifically pointed out the jail superintendent of Adiala as responsible for Bushra's safety but criticized the alleged failure of the jail authorities to fulfill their duty.
Wattoo, an educationist based in Dubai and Bushra's younger sister, revealed that Bushra's daughter visited her after more than ten days and reported concerning health issues. According to Wattoo, Bushra was given "weird, very strong-tasting food" six days prior, resulting in severe throat and stomach burns, rendering her unable to eat for the past six days and causing her health to deteriorate significantly.
She further claimed that the policewoman who delivered the food that day has since been transferred.
Wattoo emphasized that no doctor was summoned promptly to examine her sister, leading to concerns that the delayed medical attention could diminish the impact of whatever was given to her sister.
In a post on X, Wattoo also expressed her worries about her sister's well-being.
She stated: "No doctor has been called in for consultation. Mrs. Bushra Imran Khan was in good health when she surrendered herself for arrest. She does not suffer from diseases like diabetes, hypertension, or any other ailment."
"She is afraid that she will be gradually made ill, and then it will be announced that she died due to sickness and depression. She has conveyed the message that her faith is strong, Alhamdulillah, and she is enduring all this with hope that it will eventually lead to true freedom for our nation."
"The family urgently requests permission to have Mrs. Bushra Imran Khan examined by a doctor appointed by the family. She should be taken to a hospital of our choosing for comprehensive health assessments. Government-appointed doctors can also accompany her for examination."
Wattoo stated that she is appealing to Pakistan’s judiciary to take notice of what’s happening to her sister. “I call on Pakistan’s judiciary to take urgent action and look into our concerns.”
