Ramadan Moon Sighted: Holy Month Begins Tomorrow

The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee has officially declared the sighting of the Ramadan moon, marking the beginning of the holy month. The announcement came after a meeting chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the committee's chairman, held at the office of Administrator Auqaf in Peshawar. Reports of moon sightings poured in from various parts of the country, including Peshawar, Lahore, Swat, and Sargodha, leading to a unanimous decision that Ramadan will commence tomorrow, 12 March 2024.

Addressing the press following the meeting, Maulana Azad extended congratulations to the people and the Muslim community on the auspicious arrival of the holy month. Earlier discussions highlighted that sunset was expected around 6:20 pm, prompting committee members nationwide to actively participate in sighting the Ramadan moon. Similar deliberations were scheduled across Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Islamabad to finalize the moon-sighting reports.

Saudi Arabia

Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, the Ramadan moon was sighted on Sunday evening, signaling the start of the holy month on Monday, 11 March 2024. The Supreme Court in Saudi Arabia urged Muslims to report their observations of the crescent moon to the nearest court. Similarly, in the UAE, the Ramadan crescent was spotted on Sunday evening, marking the beginning of the holy month on Monday, 11 March 2024.

Notably, several other countries, including Australia, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei, and Oman, have also announced March 12 as the commencement of Ramadan. Oman made the decision after no sighting of the crescent moon on Sunday evening.
