Maryam Nawaz, a prominent leader of the PML-N and daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, made history on Monday by becoming the first female Chief Minister of Pakistan's Punjab province.

At 50 years old and serving as the senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, Maryam secured victory in the chief ministerial elections despite a walkout by lawmakers from Imran Khan's party-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

Maryam's victory in the chief ministerial elections carries great political significance in Punjab, a province with a population of 120 million people. Before heading to the Punjab Assembly for the election, she paid tribute to her mother at Jati Umra's grave.

Before the election, the PML-N emphasized this historic moment, stating in a social media post, "For the first time in the history of our nation, a woman will become the CM of Punjab. Maryam Nawaz Sharif will be the first woman to take the oath as CM of Punjab!"
