In a recent statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, Idle disclosed that he sold his home last year. Contrary to popular belief, he expressed frustration at the misconception that Monty Python's success has left its members wealthy, describing the situation as a "disaster." Idle lamented the unexpected decline in income streams at his age and hinted at unresolved management issues within the Monty Python troupe as a possible cause.

Despite suggestions of a potential Netflix documentary to improve his financial situation, Idle expressed disdain for the idea, using colorful language to criticize both the documentary genre and the streaming platform. Nevertheless, he emphasized that while he doesn't mind lacking wealth, he values the ability to bring humor to audiences.

Alongside Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin, Idle co-founded the Monty Python comedy troupe in 1969. Their sketch comedy television series garnered widespread acclaim, leading to the creation of five films between 1971 and 1983. In 2004, Idle created the medieval musical "Spamalot," which achieved success on Broadway, earning a Tony Award for Best Musical. However, he noted that the show's profitability peaked two decades ago.
